When I began my seminary studies, I had no idea that it would take me on a journey towards the development of a whole new theological framework and practical methods of ministry. During my seminary studies, I had unique opportunities to think, study, and find a deeper theological imagination of how God moves in the lives of adoptees (BIPOC adoptees especially). I ventured to understand topics like God, Evil, & Suffering, narrative healing, forgiveness & reconciliation, and many other aspects of religious history and faith that have impacted the spiritual lives of adoptees. As I moved through seminary, it became clear that scripture and Christian ethics DO have something to say that IS liberating for adoptees, but unfortunately Christian Public Leaders, churches, the Church (universal), and parents have often used Christian scripture, Christianese vocabulary, and the power of guilt to create harmful and damaging theology and family dynamics.
It is my desire to present the theological perspective and practical methods that I have been developing since seminary at QCF's conference with the confidence that this information has the power to change lives and set people free. Additionally, I hope that this session will be experienced by clergy & ministry leaders as well as adoptive parents to begin developing leaders and families that center liberation & healing for adoptees over the saviorism that has been lauded by the church for generations.
The exploration of this theological topic has been life changing for me and I truly believe it has the capacity to continue touching and changing other lives too.
