Adult & family education & immigrant integration in Philly

Adult & family education & immigrant integration in Philly

From Shimaa M

Only %5 of English language learners in the US have access to English classes. Philly in particular has a shortage in funding, appropriate programs, and opportunities for immigrants and refugees to learn and grow.

More Info

Since 2016, I have found my passion to support and inspire other immigrants by sharing my professional and lived experience with both newcomers and longtime immigrants and refugees.

We currently support English as a Second Language and workforce development programming at two different locations in the city. I teach 4 different classes with a range of 30-40 adult ELLs from at least a dozen different country. We also offer mentorship, training and professional development opportunities for prospective tutors and teacher assistants.

With little funding from fees collected from students, we have been struggling to keep our classes going despite the high demand and high need, there is little financial and logistical support available for us.

Your monetary contribution will support paying for rental fees for classrooms at different community spaces we are currently renting out of pocket, fees as a scholarship for low-income families, school and educational supplies, and occasional refreshments for families and their children.
